If you have been around Our Home Days for longer then a few minutes, you know that I am picky when it comes to toys.  When our oldest children (Z is 17 and Gab is 16) were little, I just bought without really putting anything thought into the toys.  We wasted a lot of money, and space in our home because of this (and space in the landfill when they broke).  Maybe it is my Education degree/certifications that I have now, or years of parenting because with our youngest (Lucca is 4), I look for toys that will pass the following test:

  1. Quality, will the product handle true play for a long time? Will we be able to pass it on?
  2. Versatility, will the product be able to be used for other things, with other toys? Can we grow with it? Will other kids of different ages enjoy it as well?
  3. Creativity, will my child be able to use it in a creative way? Use their imagination?
  4. Educational, can they be learning (even if they don’t know they are)?
  5. And lastly, price, is it really worth the price tag?

Since I am big on reading reviews, when Picasso Tiles reached out to work together, I went online and starting researching.  90% of what I read was great! I agreed and here we are today.

Lucca received the Picasso Tile Construction Truck Magnetic Building Block Set in the mail, and right away I noticed it said 5 and up for the recommended ages.  I figured I would have to help him and maybe it would be something he could do alone when he got a little older.  First thoughts from Lucca when we opened the box up: “Mommy, LOOK we can build it together!”   Since I was thinking he would need my help, I was on board with his plan.

I don’t know what it is about kids, but having a book to flip though with any toy is WIN!  Hahaha, he flipped through the book and saw all the trucks that could be made out of the 42 pieces.   To be completely honest with you, I thought the book was step by step instruction (like Legos) of how to build each truck.  NOPE, and at first, I was like “what the H-E- double hockey sticks?”  But as I saw Lucca exploring and trying and creating, I was happy they weren’t instructions.

For the first build I helped him along.  He was able to put all the pieces together with no problems at all, they are magnetics, and some spots have clips that hold the magnetic together.  He looked at the pictures, the majority of it, he did on his own.  I helped secure the frame of the vehicle, but showed him how I was doing it, and ever since, he can take it apart and build all on his own.  Securing the frame is important, it will fall right apart if you don’t have the clips on, and the magnetic pieces attached into the wheel base.  Once we got that together, we were good to go! And like I said, once Lucca watched me do that part (and I explained as I went along) and he can do it on his own now.

He has made a digger (excavator), a cement truck, and just a truck.  He has pushed it all over the house, and added other construction and emergency vehicles to create a whole town and played for hours.  He has also taken the square and rectangle pieces and made a building.   A STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) learning product for sure!  Lucca had no idea all the things he was learning just through play! Which makes this Education Loving Momma happy!

Totally worth the $25! BONUS, it is Amazon Prime!

Hopefully this is helpful for future gift giving, or a surprise for your little one! Thanks for stopping by the blog and reading!
