Let’s Set The Table!
I enjoy a nice set table, but it doesn’t always have to be formal, with all the flatware and dishes you won’t use. HOWEVER, with just a few simple steps and items, you can have a beautiful everyday table for your special people.
Lucca (my four year old) and I spent maybe 15 minutes on all these tablescapes, combined, so we could show you that it doesn’t require a lot of time, nor a lot of decor to have a beautiful (and functionally) backyard dinner table.
TIP #1: You can use disposable plates, placemats, napkins and even silverware and still make it pretty!
The placemats are just paper (you can even use construction paper: $3.99 for a whole stack here).
Check out these paper ones. I just added to cart a few minutes ago 😍.
Paper products have come a long way over the years. Not just the white paper plates to choose from. I love these biodegradable plates, made from fallen palm leaves. There are tons of options out there for every price range!
This is just a simple way to dress up the table.
Below is an option with melamine plates and plastic silverware.
TIP #2: Come up with a center piece. Even if it is just for the hour you are sitting at the table. Think outside the box, with some faux herbs. Or real if you have them! Or any sort of plants, or vase of flowers! I grabbed these faux herbs off the shelve in my kitchen, and just put them away when I was done clearing the table after dinner. The candle sticks were on a side table in our dining room.
TIP #3: When you are shopping, look for staple/neutral items that can be used for several seasons, and for years! All the items here (besides the paper products) I have had for YEARS. When I just pulled up the faux herbs to link, I saw I bought them in 2016, and I still have them out and use them in my decor. The plate chargers are 3 years old, a splurge, but we have gotten my money’s worth over and over already.
TIP #4: If you don’t have chargers or placemats, don’t use them. Stick something in the center of the table and throw a napkin on everyones plate and call it set!
TIP #5: Have fun with it! Or like I did for these tablescapes, bring on the helpers. Give them a job. I have found in my 18 years of Mommying, when the kids (or grandkids, or husbands, or whomever) have a role in something, they appreciate and respect it more. It also opens their eyes to creating beautiful spaces and you might see them take that into other parts of their life (LIKE CLEANING UP THEIR ROOMS, hahaha!)
I hope this was helpful, and gives you a little motivation to create a simple tablescape for your next meal!
XOXOXO,
Leandra
